May 25, 2006 Fishing at Shabbona
20.75 inch 5 pounder Dr. Darin Jordan and I went out for little morning bass fishing today. We fished from 6 AM until 10 AM. Water temp was 63 degrees and the clarity 6 inches to a foot, very similar to my last Shabbona trip 2 weeks ago with the exception that the weeds are coming on strong. We had 4 "keepers", the 20.75 ", a 15" and a pair of 14's, and a handful of runts. Not as much action as we had hoped, but you can never complain much with a 5 pounder under your belt. The action was on the Yum Wooley Curlytail grubs thrown in 2 to 4 feet of water around the surfacing weed clumps, but I can't say that it ever felt like we had a solid pattern down today. I also threw the golden spinnerbait very briefly, and caught one runt. I might head back out next week, schedule permitting, but if I was going out again today, I'd give Slugos or Bass Assassins a good trial out in those weeds. Good Luck Everybody See you on the water.
