The Golden Spinnerbait
My hands-down Favorite spinnerbaits are:
GOLD DOUBLE WILLOWLEAF SPINNERBAITS
I like the spinnerbaits with the large double willow leaf blades. These large blades let the spinner run shallow and slow, so the fish hiding in dense weeds have enough time to react to it as it passes overhead. I have the best luck with gold and white/silver skirts. The head color doesn't seem to matter, but by far the most important factor is using a spinnerbait with GOLD DOUBLE WILLOW BLADES. ( I like BIG blades, #4 and #4 1/2)
These baits can easily be retrieved through thick weeds and run very shallow. Bass stage in the shallow weedbeds in late Spring and remain active along outside weedbed edges until ice-up. These spinnerbaits also produce Muskies, though you will only get one muskie per bait, as they will destroy it.
How to fish this lure: My favorite way to fish this lure, is to throw it around shallow weeds in the 2 to 5 foot range. I like a steady retrieve running it just deep enough that you can barely see the flash of the blades when you are wearing your polarized glasses. If you can see it clearly, slow the retrieve down a little to let it run a little deeper. Hungry weedbed bass seem to hang around a foot or so deeper than you can see the blades flash, so if you can barely see the flash, your bait is right in the strike zone !!!

BEWARE. Muskie love to snatch and destroy these baits. I
actually spent some time modifying one of these to use for muskie fishing and
caught this on my first outing.
But the bait didn't survive the catch. Back to the drawing
board.
But wait, Stripers like them too....
