The Magic Crankbait
These small shallow running crankbaits are unbeatable in the Spring before the weedbeds fully develop. They perfectly mimic small bluegill, a main food source in both Busse Woods and Shabbona. They run from 1 to 3 feet deep, and are equally effective when worked with a "stop and go" retrieve, or trolled. There are many brands of this type of crankbait, they all seem to catch fish, but the natural colors tend to be the most consistent producers.
