June 9, 2007 Fishing at Shabbona Lake State Park, Shabbona Illinois
I went out to Shabbona for a morning trip with my friend C. H. Song (http://hanamartialarts.tripod.com/id8.html)
It was his first trip to Shabbona Lake, he usually fishes the Fox and some Wisconsin lakes. We arrived at 6 AM and fished until 2 PM. Water temps in the NE Bay were 72-75, visibility about 18 inches. Lots of boats after 9 AM, but not too bad for the first few hours. Very little wind today. We fished the visible emergent weeds with blue-black grubs, slower presentation than normal, and picked up 6 or 7 "keepers" between 14-17 inches, and maybe a dozen smaller bass, and one follow from a low 30s muskie. By 2 PM, the laziness of the bass, the sun, heat , and lack of a breeze took their toll and we packed it in. On the way back to the dock, we helped a kayak angler land a nice 4-5 pound channel catfish (no net). We'll be back .... Good Luck Everybody !!!!
