Fishing at Delavan Lake, Delavan Wisconsin

4 Pounds 5 Ounces

Bass - Pike Double !!!

Wes "Ace" Wooddell and myself made the run up to Delavan Lake. It was my 3rd time on the lake, and his first trip to Delavan.

On the water about 6:30 AM and fished until 5:30 PM. Water temps about 75 degrees, clarity was low for this lake at 1 to 2.5 feet (there is an algae bloom going on right now). When we saw the algae bloom, our game plan went out the window and it was blue-black chatterbaits (actually, the Strike King version "Pure Poison Swim-Jigs") for most of the day. When fish hit those baits, they KILL IT !!!

We mainly fished the weedbed areas in 3-6 feet of water, Northern Pike were everywhere.

During mid-day, we spent a few hours trying to flip Senkos under the docks, and the bass were cooperative, but the wind was really blowing hard and combined with the nonstop wave action from the ski-boats, it was just too much work... but here are a few Senko-dock fish,

The most impressive thing to me about Delavan is the body shape of the bass. They are extremely stout fish, deep bodied and very thick for their length. I wish the bass in my "usual" lakes were built like these !!!!

Good Luck Everybody !!!!
