Fishing at Delavan Lake, Delavan WI

YIKES !!! Almost 5 1/2 pounds.

Joey and I hit Delavan for a combo Fishing/WaterSports Day.

We launched at 8AM, with a nice chill still hanging in the air, and fished hard until noon. The water temp was 75-78 degrees, visibility about 3-5 feet depending on location. I couldn't tell if an algae bloom was starting, or if the lake was just churned up by the weed-picking boats and skiers..??..

Anyway, we fished down towards the "Island", and found the bass to be very cooperative. We started fishing in 3-7 feet of water with chatterbaits and rattle-baits, and had immediate results.

As the cloud cover broke, and the air warmed up, we pushed out to the outside weed-edge in 12-14 feet of water. We rigged up a variety of soft plastics (the same rigging that I always use for the Yummy Grubs) and hopped them along the bottom in 1-2 foot bounces. Most strikes came on the fall as just a sensation of weight and pressure. Set The Hook !!! Best colors were plain brown and a really strange looking orange and chartreuse Wal-Mart brand plastic worm with a small twister-tail (6 inch). The action was hot and fast.

Joey nailed his first solo FIVE POUNDER !!!

And we had a pair just shy of the 5 pound mark.

But by noon, it was HOT, and the lure of a SHINY NEW WAKEBOARD was just too much to keep Joey interested in the Bass.

We still fished intermittently throughout the day, but I quit getting the camera out for anything under 17 inches.

Joey caught these two 17's on back to back casts after a swim/ski break

Here's a nice afternoon bass 4.25 pounds

Delavan is a Fantastic Bass Fishery, but it is not a pristine Wisconsin wilderness !!!! The shoreline is 100% developed, launching is expensive and very limited, parking is tough, and it is packed with skiers throwing 3 foot wakes all day. But if you know this in advance, it's a cool lake/playground.

Good Luck Everybody !!!
