Fishing at Shabbona Lake State Park, Shabbona Illinois

I was out today with Dr. Jordan and his oldest son Brandon.

We launched around 6:30 AM, water temp was 78 degrees, visibility about 6-12 inches. First, we targeted bass in the NE Bay. Blue-black grubs and chatterbaits for an hour delivered NOTHING, so we decided to get out the catfish gear and get some action.

Chicken livers on the weededge produced several nice channel cats. We saw a HUGE channel cat go completely airborne chasing shad (easy 12- 15 pounder), but he wasn't interested in us. We had 4 fish in the 4.5 to 5 pound range ( I dropped one back in before the picture, I was trying to rinse him off a little, and he decided to go nuts and twist right out of my hand. Oops...)

Lunch at the Lakeside Restaurant, then back out for another hour. By 3 PM, it was time to go, water was up to 84 degrees, it was getting hot, and the fish were getting lazy, except for a last minute 4.5 pounder.

Good Luck Everybody !!!!
