Muskie Fishing at Spring Lake North, near Peoria IL

After Wes crushed that 7 pound 14 ounce Largemouth yesterday, Brad, Wes and I decided to go muskie fishing today. So we crossed the street, and launched the boat on North Spring Lake. We had 4 muskies in the boat: a pair of 30 inchers, a 29 incher and a 28 incher, and one larger fish gave Wes the old "spit-you-out" treatment. That pattern I mentioned on January 20, 2006 and Feb 1, 2006 and March 29, 2006 is still working, and had all of the action for Brad and Wes ( I threw the old Golden Spinnerbait for my fish, a 30", a 29" and a bonus 20" 4.0 pound bass.) And now that Ace and Hawg Czar had a chance to drag one in the boat, I can tell you that the secret pattern is the exact same Yum Wooley Curlytail grubs that have been catching all the bass on the south lake, just tied onto muskie rods with Tiger Leader and a much thicker 3-0 weedless hook fished right through the lilypad stalks.

The water was 55 degrees, visibility about 6-10 inches.

30" 28" 29"

30" 20" 4.0 lb

CAUTION: Before you plan your trip to Spring Lake, please note that this is a very shallow and weedy lake, according to the IL DNR "at least 75 percent is covered with 17 different species of aquatic vegetation by late May of each year" , Very Soon this lake will be a weed-choked Nightmare for fishermen. This is a lake to fish in late Winter and early Spring ONLY.
