April 22, 2006 Bass Fishing at Sangchris Lake, near Springfield IL
"The Sangchris Bass Gang" (Brad aka Hawg Czar, Wes aka Lucky Ace, and myself) got together for our first Sangchris trip of 2006. Conditions were perfect, air temp 74 degrees, mild west wind, water temp 75 degrees, visibility of about a foot, and loads of hungry bass. (lake level is still about 18 inches below normal pool) We threw a variety of shallow shad raps, Yum Wooley Curlytail grubs, and even a new Rapala X-rap which caught the 20 incher pictured above. We alternated between wind blown points and old lilypad stalks, and the pattern of the day remained the same wherever we fished and whatever we used, loads of bass but 6 runts to every "keeper". The bass are following the shad, but haven't started cruising the spawning sites, that should start in the next few weeks. Best fish of the trip was a 20 incher, followed by Westley's 19 incher, then a pile of 15 to 17 inchers. We didn't boat any monsters, but the action was fast and furious and fun, we even had several "doubles". "The Sangchris Bass Gang" will be back together in 2 weeks, stay tuned....
