Bass Fishing at Spring Lake South State Park, near Peoria IL

I LOVE FISHING !!!!   5 Pounds 2 Ounces.

My last fishing trip was way back in January, who knew the weather would get so bitter and freeze up the lake until March ??

Anyway, the water has been open for a little over a week, no waterfowl restrictions, and almost Nobody on the water, equals Big Easy Bass.

I made the 4 hour drive down from my house and was fishing by about 11:30 AM.

Same basic pattern. All of the fish where caught on the Yum Wooley Curlytail grubs, swimming them VERY slowly over deep holes (this is a very shallow lake) just like Jan 3,4 2007 and Jan 6,7 2007 and  Jan 11, 2007.

The Best of the Day was 5 pounds 2 oz,  followed by this hoard of smaller "keepers" and about 30 sub-16 inchers

This morning my mom came with me for a little family fishing fun. We started out at the North Lake around 9:30 AM, met some really great local anglers, and then made one pass down the "muskie Zone". After an hour, we had one Lazy muskie follow and 4 bass, Hmmmm.. "I think the bass are trying to tell us something"...  We packed up and ran over to the South Lake and spent the day bass fishing. (Sorry Muskie Fans)

No 5 pounders today, but still some decent action.

All of the fish where caught on the Yum Wooley Curlytail grubs, swimming them VERY slowly over deep holes.

At 3 PM a thunderstorm blew in. We quickly ran to the dock, yanked the boat out covered it with the tarp, and sat in the car eating our lunch. After 35 minutes, it blew over completely, and we resumed fishing in a nice dry boat !!! and fished until about 6:30 PM.

The lake was almost abandoned, but we did meet a few local bass anglers. Real nice guys. What a LAKE !!!

I was really surprised to find that the water temps had shot up to 49-52 degrees. Water clarity was perfect, and the green weeds are already starting to re-charge on the North Lake.
