January 6 and 7, 2007 Bass Fishing at Spring Lake South State Park, near Peoria IL
After that 7 + pounder on January 3rd I was going back no matter what. January 6th was a nasty cold front, not really bad for January but still 15+ degrees cooler that the day before, and the bass definitely seemed to notice. Action was slow, Brad had a pair of plump 17 inchers, and not much else. January 7th, second day of the cold front, temps picked up a little, and the action was noticeably better. No giants, but a FAT 19 incher and 3 chunky 18 inchers. Water temp was 39 degrees, visibility about a foot, same pattern as last winter (find the holes and give them the magic bait). Keep it slow, but keep it swimming, and hammer the hooksets. Hopefully, I'll be back SOON. Now Goose Season is still open, so you can't launch a boat until 1 PM on either lake, and it gets dark at 4:30 PM, so the fishing day is really short, but the painful drive is more than paid for with Big Fat Winter Bass. Good Luck Everybody !!!!
