January 11, 2007 Bass Fishing at Spring Lake South State Park, near Peoria IL
19.5" Basketball That fish hasn't been missing any meals !!! After that 7 + pounder on January 3rd, I just have to keep going back to this lake when ever I get the chance. Best fish today was about 4 pounds (just an estimate, but he was Fat). Water temp has fallen to 34 degrees, and there was skim ice in the wind protected corners of the lake. All of the fish where caught on the Yum Wooley Curlytail grubs, swimming them slowly over deep holes (this is a very shallow lake) just like Jan 6,7 2007 and Jan 3,4 2007. I was planning on returning on January 12th, but with a forecast of statewide ice storms, I just packed up and headed North. The 4 hour ride home could become an 8 hour disaster when pulling a boat in freezing rain. With the cold snap coming down from Canada, THIS LAKE WILL FREEZE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. After it freezes, it will take some fairly warm weather to open it up again. I'll be back out as soon as the weather permits. Now Goose Season is still open, so you can't launch a boat until 1 PM on either lake. Goose season ends February 1st, then normal fishing hours are back in effect. Good Luck Everybody !!!!
